Babak Faraji is a Ph.D. student in Food Science & Technology at Virginia Tech, working in Dr. Yifan Cheng’s group. His research focuses on engineering nanotextured stainless steel surfaces through electrochemical etching to enhance antifouling and bactericidal performance for food safety applications. His work combines electrochemistry, surface characterization (AFM, SEM), and microbiological tests to explore how nanoscale topography and reactive oxygen species affect bacterial survival. Babak’s goal is to develop scalable, chemical-free strategies to improve hygienic design in food processing environments.
